It has been said of our Head Chef, Kieran Whyte, that he loves wine as much as he loves food. His ardent appreciation for South African wine aligns with our own passion for the country’s most mouth-watering export – in fact, the cellar at Ellerman House contains 9,000 bottles of South Africa’s finest labels; one of the most significant private collections of its kind in the world.
Our own unique blend, “The Ellerman”, is created with Erika Obermeyer; a talented local winemaker who forms part of South Africa’s exciting cohort of up-and-coming female producers and viticulturists. This collaboration makes our next culinary event – a pop-up dinner paired with wines from female-crafted labels – a natural extension of our love for exceptional wines.
“By POPular Demand” is a concept that supports women in wine, brought to life by a group of dynamic and influential female winemakers. 12 of these women will present their wines in the Ellerman House Wine Gallery on Friday 23 September, each expertly paired with dishes created by Chef Kieran. Featured labels will include The Garajeest, Thistle and Weed, Tierhoek, The Vineyard Party and Black Pearl Wines, among others. This delicious selection of wines, and a tasting menu that complements the aptitude and craftsmanship that went into making them, will make for a truly unforgettable gastronomic experience.
